One Battle After Another (2025)
Oscar Romero is my favourite 20th century Saint. On an unrelated note, the Salvador Civil War saw some Jesuits take up arms. A new Apostolic Exhortation is out. Our good friends at Opus Dei have converted it to the .epub format.
Since I'm unemployed now, I have the freedom to go watch a movie at noon on a Tuesday. We were only 3 in the theatre. I never drink during movies but stuck in my mind has been stuck on a clip of Conor McGregor (the only MMA fighter interesting enough to deserve a biopic (not because he's the most popular but because he's a Thackeray character)) go into an almost orgasmic trance after taking sniff of beer, holding back every urge to take a sip since he was sober in the lead up to a fight which he later pulled out of.
"UNDER THE LABEL YOU WANT IT" which is the Gaeolic phrase. So I got myself a pint can of Guinness.
I'm a big fan of digital projection. Love it! One of the issues with print films is how they degrade with defects like scratched, burns, hairs, etc show up on a given reel with time. Its bound to happen. You're rolling ~14500ft (2.7miles) of film with a bright hot lamp behind it. I love George Lucas. One of the great American artists. In the late 70s/early 80s, LucasFilm conducted a survey on theatres. Most cinemas would run whatever rolls they got from the distributor for months, and after the first week, the sheer number of defects resulted in a completely different looking image from the first screening. This isn't an issue with digital projection. Except at my screening where the 19 year old running the projector had the whole movie (slightly) out of focus. It did help smooth out the wrinkles on Sean Penn's face.
Aspect ratios. We're seeing the VistaVision 3:2 comeback which no one has cared since North by Northwest. The upcoming Bugonia is in 3:2 as well. Resources on Middle Kingdom numerology will be added to the footnotes. Chinese not Egyptian. Personally I prefer 1.66..:1, which is covered Yuan dynasty treatises on irrational numbers.
Loads of lewd, 'male gaze' shots in the first 10 minutes of this. Teyana Taylor (of Fade music video fame) is always wearing a crop top or shorts. But if I looked like that, I'd be dressed like that too.
If you want to know why to Sean Penn's character arc goes the way it goes, Penn is of part Irish descent.
This will all be retracted if Tariq Nasheed posts an alteranative opinion on the movie.
