Roaring Twenties

Happy New Year. Starting in 2021, it looks like the era of the tall man over 6' is over. In other news, the Snyder cut is finally coming out and it will change the game.

The anamorphic lens meme is truly over. From this point onwards the only people who use aspect ratios wider than 1:85:1 are indians on youtube with their ""cinematic"" "teal and orange"cellphone h264 footage.

For us men of culture, this is nothing new. Anamorphic was always too weird and matting was always a waste of image quality. We have history on our side with this one. Notorious anti-semite Stanley Kubrick knew this too.

Driven to take his compositions to the next level, Zack Snyder shot Justice League open matte. The new Snyder cut will be shown in the 4:3 aspect ratio. If you don't like this, hit the "C" button on VLC.
When the hack Joss Whedon was brought in by WB to "complete" Justice League, he messed up. For one he's visually illiterate. The everyman's Noah Baumbach.

First, his lighting was off. He was unable to light a scene like Snyder. This is one of Joss' many weaknesses. He can make a hundred million dollar production look like a 2003 unaired TV pilot.

Second was the framing. By blindly cropping, the theatrical release wound up ruining the original framing of scene. The film's DP had to publicly call him out on this. I have run into this problem when watching The X-Files on Amazon Prime Video.
