The Alpha Male Experience #002 - Golden Gloves '06

I've avoided and violence throughout my life.

I am a man of peace. What has kept me out of violence is luck and my imposing stature makes people think twice about picking a fight with me. Like brightly coloured, poisionous frogs that warn other animals of the potential danger.

Outside of the fight itself, I don't remember much of it.

He blitzed in, wildly throwing punches towards me. Almost instinctively, I got my hands up and started shuffling back. None of his punches landed clean, most of them hitting my forearms and shoulders. This was 10 years before I had even taken a single boxing lesson. My feet were square. No stance. No head movement, just footwork. I never knew short looping punches like hooks or uppercuts existed. All I had were straights.

He was slightly shorter than me and always closing in. I knew I needed distance.
I did a double shift back, dropped down to waist level and threw a right straight to his body. First punch, I'd thrown all fight.
He clutched his stomach, moved back then started crying.

The pain was too much.

He then proceeded to yell every expletive he knew towards me.

He never talked to me for months, but I had gained the respect of my friends.

This is a classic boxing manuever used to keep aggressive boxers at bay. I remember reading about it in an old boxing book.
